Instead, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frontiersin.org\/journals\/marine-science\/articles\/10.3389\/fmars.2017.00100\/full\"><strong>seaweed farming sequesters CO2<\/strong><\/a> and provides a sustainable source of food and biofuel.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-28fbf2db gb-headline-text\">Furthermore, effective fisheries management plays a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s44183-024-00053-x\">crucial role<\/a> in maintaining marine biodiversity and enhancing the ocean&#8217;s capacity to sequester carbon, further mitigating climate change. Just by ending the practice of overfishing, we could store the same amount of carbon as <a href=\"https:\/\/sentientmedia.org\/overfishing-fueling-emissions\/\">6.5 million acres of forest each year<\/a>.
